There is a quiet excitement that arrives in Palm Beach County as September gives way to October. The heat finally loosens its grip, the evenings take on a golden, breezy quality, and something remarkable happens: the whole county begins to wake up again. This is the edge of the season, the moment when the summer crowds drift away and the community that lives here year-round gets the calendar back. Over the next two weeks you can catch a major country headliner at one of the Southeast's top amphitheaters, wander a weekend craft festival in the heart of Delray Beach, watch the sun set over the water at a free outdoor concert, and discover that fall in South Florida is less about turning leaves and more about turning toward each other. Whether you are a long-time resident or someone gently exploring what life here could look like, here is exactly what is coming up.

What's happening this week, September 21 through 27?

This is a week with a little of everything: an entire month of dining deals still in full swing, a legendary final tour, a weekend art-and-craft street fair, and some of the best farmers market mornings of the year.

Monday, September 21

Downtown Delray Beach Restaurant Month
Continues all through September. More than 50 restaurants along Atlantic Avenue and the surrounding blocks are offering prix fixe menus, happy hour specials, and tasting events all month long. It is no exaggeration to say this is one of the best dining values of the entire year, and it is the kind of thing food lovers specifically time their visits around. Whether it is a cozy Italian spot, a waterfront seafood house, or a farm-to-table newcomer, this is the week to check a few favorites off your list before the month ends.

Tuesday, September 22

Tasty Tuesdays at Sunset Cove Amphitheater, Boca Raton
5:00 PM to 8:30 PM at South County Regional Park, 20405 Amphitheater Cir, Boca Raton. Free admission. This beloved summer tradition brings a rotating lineup of food trucks curated by Gourmet Truck Expo to the outdoor amphitheater, with live music and family-friendly vibes under the September sky. Bring a blanket and a camping chair, grab dinner from a different truck each visit, and settle in for an easy evening that feels a world away from the busy season ahead.

Wednesday, September 23

Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber, iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre
7:00 PM at 601-7 Sansburys Way, West Palm Beach. Tickets through Live Nation and Ticketmaster. One of hip-hop's most influential groups brings its farewell tour to South Florida, a celebration built on decades of hits and a legacy that reshaped the genre. For fans, this is a rare chance to witness a piece of music history in an iconic open-air venue under the stars.

Thursday, September 24

6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on the Great Lawn at 101 N Clematis St. Free admission. Florida's longest-running free concert series continues into the fall with live music, food trucks from 5:30 PM, and the relaxed energy of the waterfront at dusk. There is no better free way to spend a Thursday evening, and the earlier sunset means the sky over the water is especially pretty this time of year.

Wellington Food Truck & Music Series
Food trucks from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM, live music at 6:30 PM at Wellington Amphitheater, 12100 Forest Hill Blvd. Free admission. Another Thursday, another evening of rotating food trucks and live bands in an easy, family-friendly outdoor setting.

Friday, September 25

Art After Dark, Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach
5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at 1450 S Dixie Hwy. $18 for adults, free for members and children under 18. The Norton's Friday-night tradition of live music, pop-up gallery talks, and a cash bar is one of the most elegant ways to ease into the weekend. Wander the galleries in the evening light, then linger over a drink with friends in the museum's gardens.

Saturday, September 26

8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 10500 N Military Trail. Over 60 vendors with live music from 9:00 AM to noon. Downtown Delray Beach Craft Festival
Second day of the weekend street fair in downtown Delray Beach. Another chance to browse the makers and take in the energy of Atlantic Avenue.

What about September 28 through October 4?

The final week of September and the first week of October is where the season truly begins. The GreenMarkets shift into fall mode, the monthly art walks and night markets return, and the concert calendar keeps building momentum. This is the week when Palm Beach County officially starts feeling like a place where things are always happening.

Tuesday, September 29

Tasty Tuesdays, Sunset Cove Amphitheater, Boca Raton

Delray Marketplace Music Fest
A new fall season of free live music kicks off at the Delray Marketplace Amphitheater, 4664 W Atlantic Ave. The weekly Wednesday-evening concert series, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, is a relaxed way to spend a midweek evening among the shops and restaurants of the Delray Marketplace. Why does Palm Beach County work so well for empty nesters and retirees?

The question I hear most often from people considering a move to South Florida is a simple one: "Will I find my community here?" And the calendar answers it more honestly than any sales pitch ever could.

Consider everything in just these two weeks. You could catch a farewell tour for a legendary hip-hop group on a Wednesday, a country superstar on a Saturday, and a rising honky-tonk star the following Saturday, all at one world-class amphitheater. You could wander a weekend craft festival in downtown Delray Beach, dance to free live music on the West Palm Beach waterfront on a Thursday, browse the makers at a night market in downtown Boca Raton, and meet neighbors over coffee at a farmers market with more than 85 vendors. That is not an unusual stretch. It is a perfectly ordinary two weeks in Palm Beach County, especially as the season begins.

These are not tourist attractions. They are the fabric of a community built around connection, culture, and quality of life. For empty nesters making the decision to downsize and relocate, that fabric is everything. When you choose a home in South Florida, you are not just picking a floor plan or a zip code. You are choosing a place where it is genuinely easy to stay active, stay curious, and stay surrounded by people who share your enthusiasm for this chapter of life.

On the practical side, Palm Beach County continues to offer compelling advantages for retirees. Florida has no state income tax and no Social Security tax. The homestead exemption can reduce your taxable property value by up to $50,000. The Save Our Homes amendment caps annual assessment increases at 3 percent once you establish residency. Homeowners aged 65 and older with qualifying household incomes may be eligible for additional exemptions. Healthcare is excellent, with Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Delray Medical Center, and Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center all providing nationally recognized care close to home.

More than two dozen 55-plus communities across the county offer active, amenity-rich lifestyles with clubhouses, pools, fitness centers, pickleball courts, and social calendars of their own. And with the Brightline station in Boca Raton providing rail access to Miami and Orlando, getting anywhere you want to go is effortless.

No pressure. No sales pitch. Just honest, experienced guidance from someone who has walked this path many times.
